Description

Foundation works for the new Morandi bridge in Genoa, consisting of 18 piers and 2 abutments. I.CO.P. was awarded the works on the Eastern Riviera, from pier 10 to pier 18, with pier 10 and pier 11 having spans of 100 m, while the remaining piers support a 50 m long deck.
Partially-cased, bored bentonite piles ND1500 mm (with a temporary lining 8 to 10 meters long) have been drilled down to a maximum depth of 44 meters from ground level. Each pier rests on a different number of piles, ranging from 8 to 12.
The overall length of piles is 5.120 meters. Furthermore, the project required the execution of temporary works and about 2.000 m of ND880 mm fully cased, secant piles driven down to a depth of 24 m.
